A112 ABARTH DISTRIBUTOR KIT

NEW - A112 ABARTH 70HP,
MAGNETI MARELLI SM803BX REPLICA ELECTRONIC "PLEX" DISTRIBUTOR KIT.
INCLUDES A REPLICA COIL AND CONTROL ASSEMBLY 4386220, AND A REPLICA WIRES SET 8538.
THIS KIT WILL REPLACE THE POINTS DISTRIBUTORS USED IN 850, 127, & A112 ENGINES.
I bought two of these, and this is what I discovered with the other unit...
1. Both of the advance springs are the low speed units so it's very slow to advance, and the curve is linear. Substituting a high speed spring for one of the low speed springs solves this issue.
2. The rotor is for a points ignition system, not one for an electronic system with a resistor. Change it so you get a good spark at the plugs.
3. The pick up magnet is not very strong, so I was getting a cut out and miss typical of a broken or incorrectly installed magnet. Using a new unit solved this problem.
4. The damn thing would shut down above 3,500 RPM. This is the control unit. Replacing it with a high speed unit solves this just fine.
5. The distributor is built with zero end play when cold. On my initial test drive the distributor started squeaking, then sized. By removing one of the shims I was able to get end play in the shaft when hot, and that solved that. And then the car ran GREAT!
6. The supplier states that he has sold lots of these with zero issues, so possibly I just got a bad one? No matter. But if you buy this one be prepared to also purchase the additional parts I discovered the other one required.
