I have recently acquired an 86 X1/9 and am attempting to get it running again. This particular car had been sitting for quite a while and one of the things it needed was a new fuel pump as the old one was missing completely. I have installed the new one but am getting no fuel as it seems the pump isn't working or simply isn't turning on. I have read the tech tips you have about needing oil pressure before they turn on

??? A Fuel Injected car does not need oil pressure, it needs the computer to receive the signal that air is moving into the induction system to provide power to the fuel pump.

and it possibly being a fuse problem.

Yes, that is quite possible. Have you checked the fuse with a load for voltage?

I wasn't quite sure if the methods for starting after storage applied to electric fuel pumps or not.

The same precautions and pre-lubrications should be carried out whether the car is fuel injected or carbureted.

I would appreciate any suggestions for trouble shooting the fuel pump issue. Thanks,
Shawn

As our tech tip states, turn on the ignition system, deflect the air flow meter, and check for power at the fuel pump. If you do not have it, using the wiring diagram as a reference, trace the circuit back until you discover the problem.

Also, just to be sure, could you tell me which wire leads are +,-, so I'm sure I have them correct(green/black,purple/black)

This can be quite difficult as Bertone employees could have used any color for anything, especially when it comes to the added Bosch stuff for the USA market. I assume you have checked your wiring diagram and found different colors? If so, then my only suggestion is to physically trace the wire you suspect is the ground to confirm it.

Obviously if you have the fuel pump circuit energized, the one that has battery voltage is the positive one!

Good luck!
