Hi Chris,

Just before Ore'02 I installed an '87 Yugo electronic ignition in the '75, X1/9. The performance was very nicely improved. But yesterday I picked up a full X1/9 ignition setup out of a '77 and now I'm wondering if there would be anything to gain by installing the Fiat system. I was told the Yugo vacuum is a retarded device on the dizzy and to disconnect the hose to it. I did that but really don't know what the gain was there. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mike Mudge

The electronic Yugo system is so far superior to the points system the 1977 X uses I personally would not even consider going back. I run the Yugo system without the vacuum advance system connected mostly because I want less total advance with the 1.5 crankshaft stroke.

On a 1.3 liter I would set it up for total advance with and without the vacuum advance, then choose the option that has the best performance.

Please realize the Yugo system is not legal in the eyes of California State's smog laws when installed in your car.
